Topic: Why Can’t We Learn? - Examines a number of historical and recent warehouse and industrial fires to show that we haven’t really learned anything, or at least we are not applying the lessons we’ve learned through the most expensive educational method there is, burning a facility to the ground. 

Bio:
Jeffrey Moore, PE, FSFPE, CFEI, is a fire protection engineer with over forty years of experience in industrial fire protection. After graduating from the Ohio State University in 1980, he started the first of two stints with Industrial Risk Insurers (IRI), serving as a field engineer and District Supervising Engineer in IRI’s Cincinnati District Office. In 1986 he moved to IRI’s home office in Hartford, Connecticut, as a Senior Loss Prevention Training Consultant developing and teaching courses in their Loss Prevention Training Center.

In 1989 he accepted the position of fire protection engineer for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, where he was responsible for all aspects of fire protection engineering for an active airbase with over 30,000 military, contractor, and civilian personnel. 

In 1994 he returned to IRI, where he developed a training and certification program for IRI field engineers. He also developed and taught industrial fire protection and loss control programs for clients throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, England, and Ireland. In 2001 he accepted a position as a senior fire protection engineer with Hughes Associates, Inc., a position he held until 2019. 
He was an active firefighter/EMT for over 20 years for the Mount Gilead, Ohio, and Springdale, Ohio, Fire Departments. In addition to industrial fire protection courses, he has served as a fire service instructor, EMS instructor, and training officer in the municipal fire service. He has also taught fire protection courses at the OSHA Training Institute, the Air Force Institute of Technology, the Society of Fire Protection Engineers, the National Fire Protection Association, and many other organizations. 

In 2011 he was elected to the grade of Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. He is licensed as a fire protection engineer in multiple states and is a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI).
He is currently a consulting fire protection engineer specializing in designing and analyzing fire protection and life safety systems for specialized industrial, commercial, institutional, military, and government facilities. He is also the author of the fire protection training text, Industrial Fire Control Concepts and 51 Conversations with the Wise Old Fire Protection Engineer.
